Installing an Air-Conditioning System Without Disturbing a Hotel's Historic Identity

When the owners of a hotel originally built on a centuries-old site needed to renovate, they couldn’t install just any air conditioning system. They needed one that could take on the challenges of restoring what’s considered an historic monument:

Challenge #1: It was essential that none of the units be seen or heard.
Daikin®’s VRV® outdoor unit’s 60 Pa pressure capabilities allowed the AC units to be nestled away in a single services room. All the more impressive considering there are 9 units of 10 hp each.

Challenge #2: Pipes leading to complex routing had to be concealed completely.
The exceptional pipe length allowed by the VRV system meant the piping could be fed through roof spaces, and hidden by architectural “camouflage” that concealed the ducting.

Challenge #3: Limited thermal insulation in certain rooms necessitated the management of varying loads.
The VRV’s inverter control system, specifically designed to compensate for even the widest load variations, did the trick. Now, this prestige building maintains an air conditioning system that complements its level of status. And a total of 73 rooms and suites are air-conditioned by ducted units that simply do not disturb. Daikin®'s solution: Our VRV® outdoor unit's 0.24" WG pressure capabilities allowed the AC units to be nestled away in a single services room.
